Footy In Schools

AFL Western District’s football development team are passionate about the delivery of in school programs, as these serve as a great introduction to football participation in a familiar environment for students who may not yet have a connection with a local community club.

The focus within primary schools is around introduction to the game, fundamental motor skills and skill development in early years, before a transition to round-robin carnivals and mini-matches including AFL 9’s. Promoting the game to kids and introducing them to programs such as NAB AFL Auskick serves as a conduit between schools and their neighbouring football clubs.

Secondary school programs aim to promote participation for students who may or may not participate at clubs, with competition between high schools a highlight of the school year.
